In accordance with section 6 of the ICAO Rules, the Executive Committee (EXCOM) is comprised of a President, Vice President (4), and Executive Members (3) and is to be elected at a General Meeting. The EXCOM meets at least once a year to discuss policies and programmes, draw up annual reports and budgets, and approve membership applications to name a few.

- Ivan Asiimwe, Vice-President
(2016-2021) - Dr. Asiimwe is General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Cooperative Alliance (UCA), the umbrella organization for all the Cooperatives in Uganda. Born into a humble family of farmers, he joined a farmers’ co-operative as a member in 1998 while studying at university and was later hired by that co-op after graduation in 2003. He has since worked in the national cooperative sector for almost 20 years. He was admitted to the ICAO Board in 2016 replacing his predecessor, former CEO of the UCA, who retired that year. Asiimwe also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Makerere University (Uganda) and is currently pursuing a PhD degree in cooperative development.

- Márcio Lopes de FREITAS, Vice President
(2013-2021) - Mr. Freitas, president of the Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives (OCB), was elected vice-president of the Americas in 2013. A farmer and co-operative member for over 25 years, Freitas was born into a farm family in Patrocinio Paulista, São Paulo, Brazil. His first direct participation in the cooperative system began in 1994 when he was elected a board member of the Cooperative of Coffee Growers and Ranchers (Cocapec) and appointed president of the Cooperative of Rural Credit (Credicocapec). His contribution to the cooperative sector continued at the helm of the Organization of Cooperatives of the State of Sao Paulo (Ocesp) between 1997 and 2001 and now at that of the Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives (OCB). He is also president of the National Service of Cooperative Learning (Sescoop) and the Organization of the Cooperatives of Portuguese Speaking Countries (OCPLP). Mr. Freitas graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Brasília (UnB).
